Objectives

CivicBoost is an active citizenship lab designed for high school students in the Vulture–Melfese area. Its goal is simple yet ambitious: to help young people rediscover the value of participation, make their voices heard, and collectively build a fairer and more inclusive vision of the future.

The project, promoted by Pot in Pot in collaboration with the associazione ETS L’Albero, is funded by “Civitates – The European Democracy Fund” as part of the “Civic Power Italy” call for proposals, which supports initiatives aimed at strengthening young people’s civic and democratic participation.

Through games, theatre, peer research, and small collective actions, participants will explore their values, fears, and motivations in relation to civic participation. Together, they will create tools and campaigns to engage other students and imagine new ways of “practising citizenship” in everyday life.

Activities

The lab is structured into four modules:

Group Building and Narrative Co-Creation

The first module is dedicated to group building and creating a climate of trust. Through theatre activities, games, and creative practices, participants get to know one another, learn to listen, and reflect together on the meaning of citizenship, rights, participation, and belonging. It is a safe space where they can share their stories, exchange perspectives, and bring out shared themes and values that will guide the rest of the journey.

Peer-to-Peer Research

In this module, participants become researchers. Building on the themes that emerged in Module 1, they design simple and accessible tools (questionnaires, games, interviews) to explore the opinions, needs, and motivations of their peers. The research is carried out within the school context, and the results are then analyzed collectively, fostering critical thinking, data literacy, and teamwork skills.

Civic Campaigns

This module is dedicated to action. Using the results of their research, participants design and implement one or more civic engagement campaigns aimed at their peers. The campaigns can take different forms — digital content, creative actions, micro-games, or symbolic interventions — with the goal of fostering interest, awareness, and participation around the topics chosen by the group.

Young Citizens’ Manifesto

In the final module, participants develop a collective manifesto that brings together the reflections, visions, and proposals that emerged throughout the journey. The manifesto combines narrative elements with concrete recommendations and is conceived as a tool to share outcomes with the community, schools, and institutions. It represents the voice of young people and the result of the work carried out together.
