LEGO® Serious Play®
When thinking with your hands
changes the way you work together.
The LEGO® Serious Play® Method
What is the LEGO® Serious Play® method?
LEGO® Serious Play® is a facilitation method developed by the LEGO® Group and used worldwide by organizations, companies and teams to tackle complex decisions, build shared visions and solve problems that traditional meetings fail to unlock.
It is not free-form building. It is a facilitated and structured process, in which every participant builds three-dimensional models to give concrete shape to ideas, values and scenarios and shares them with the group.
Why it works
Building with your hands activates parts of thinking that words alone cannot reach.
Models make visible what normally remains implicit: unspoken concerns, different visions, ideas still taking shape.
The method ensures that every voice is heard: not just those who are most comfortable speaking up in meetings.
When to use LEGO® Serious Play®
Strategic planning and priorities
When the team needs to define a direction but struggles to find a shared starting point.
The method helps make everyone’s priorities visible and build a strategy that truly belongs to the whole group.
Change management
When the organization is going through a transformation and people are struggling to align on the new direction.
The method helps give concrete shape to uncertainty and build a shared path forward.
Problem solving on complex challenges
When the problem is known but the solution isn’t emerging, despite meetings and discussions.
Building with your hands unlocks new angles and surfaces ideas that words cannot bring to light.
Team vision and cohesion
When the team has lost the sense of what they do together or struggles to recognise itself in a shared mission.
The method brings shared values and motivations back to the surface.
Generational transition
When two generations need to find a common language and build the future of the organization together.
The method creates a space where every perspective carries equal weight.
Onboarding and integration
When new people join the team and there is a need to quickly build trust and a sense of belonging.
The method accelerates mutual understanding and alignment on the culture of the organization.
